"What a great idea!"

That’s what people say when they learn about the concept of community-based car sharing. PhillyCarShare proved the idea could succeed in Philadelphia and with help from our partners and members, we have been improving the mobility of Philadelphians since 2002.

Members choose to join PhillyCarShare because it’s convenient and suits their lifestyle. As a non-profit organization, PhillyCarShare exists not only for the benefit of its members but for the city of Philadelphia as well. Econsult, a nationally-recognized local consulting firm, has analyzed membership usage, survey results, and other data to determine the impact PhillyCarShare has had on the city, and we are excited to share the results with the region and our members.

Some exciting tidbits from the study:

• Our members gave up over 4,500 vehicles, meaning each vehicle in PhillyCarShare's fleet has taken 15 privately-owned vehicles off the road.
• Those members are then able to spend their savings locally, thus supporting 150 jobs in the city.
• PhillyCarShare members drove 17 million fewer miles last year and avoided consuming 770,000 gallons of gasoline.
