Our PeopleWe are a group of urban residents dedicated to reducing overall vehicle usage in the Greater Philadelphia region. Founders Eli Massar (co-founder and board member) has focused his career on expanding the delivery of public services to Philadelphia and Pennsylvania citizens. Currently, as a Special Assistant at the Pennsylvania Department of General Services, he concentrates on improving the efficiency and productivity of the State's vehicle fleet and real estate portfolio. Formerly, as the Commercial Corridor Manager for the University City District, he worked to improve the sustainability of Philadelphia's University City neighborhood by reinvigorating its Baltimore and Lancaster Avenue retail corridors. He has also worked on policy issues for the Philadelphia City Controller's Office and Finance Department. Eli lives in University City, where he is active in its community groups. Nathaniel Robinson (co-founder and board chair) guides the Board of Directors in setting macro-level strategies with regards to competition, public policy, and fundraising. Previously he was an investment banker for six years, working with domestic middle market and Israel-based companies on transactions ranging from mergers and acquisitions to public and private placements of debt and equity. Nathaniel earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Drexel University, a Master in Public Policy at Harvard University, and a Master of Business Administration with Distinction from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, where he was an Edward Tuck Scholar. Nathaniel is an avid outdoorsman who has climbed, trekked, and skied throughout the Himalayas, the Andes, and the Swiss Alps. Tanya Seaman, Executive Director of PhillyCarShare (co-founder and board member) Beginning in 2002 without staff and with modest working capital, Tanya organized volunteers and board members to wash PhillyCarShare's cars, perform outreach, and manage finances, while donating months of her own time to launch the organization. As thousands of businesses and residents have joined, Tanya has employed technology advances to automate internal systems, improve customer service, expand membership, and promote productivity. Tanya builds on her background as a designer to develop technology enhancements and marketing materials; and her education and passion in urban planning to promote car sharing in all aspects of living and working in Philadelphia. Tanya holds a Masters in City and Regional Planning from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelors degree in Environmental Design from the University of California at Davis. In recognition of her assertive leadership, technological prowess, and unequivocal commitment to PhillyCarShare, the Philadelphia Business Journal has recognized Tanya as one of Philadelphia's outstanding "40 Under 40". In her spare time, Tanya enjoys reading on a variety of topics, as well as traveling to cities around the world. Lawrence Shaeffer (co-founder and board member) is a community activist who has organized watershed associations, water-quality monitoring programs, and stream-bank restoration projects. Larry is a co-founder of Sensible Highway Alternatives to Protect the Environment (SHAPE), a coalition of national, regional, and local organizations that focuses on developing community-sensitive designs for transportation projects. Larry has also been a member of the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission's Regional Citizens Committee for several years. Larry is self-employed.
Board Members Patrick Fitzgerald (board member) is the President and a Co-Founder of RecycleBank. RecycleBank is the first company of its kind to financially reward households that recycle. Through partnerships with over 150 local and national retailers, RecycleBank has formulated a business model that rewards households for recycling, provides cities and municipalities with considerable landfill/incinerator fee savings, and promotes socially responsible businesses. Prior to RecycleBank, Patrick was an attorney in the Wall Street office of Carter Ledyard & Milburn LLP. Patrick's practice specialized in mergers & acquisitions, corporate governance and management, and the long-term assessment and valuation of target markets. Patrick received a Juris Doctorate from Fordham University School of Law. Prior to Fordham Law School, Patrick was a Clerk for the United States Tax Court. Patrick is a member of the New York State Bar Association and is admitted to practice law in New York Supreme Court and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York (Federal). Patrick received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania. In addition, he is a guest lecturer for the Wharton School MBA program and a mentor in the Columbia University Lang Center for Entrepreneurship Program. Jeffrey Friedman (board member) moved to Philadelphia in 1989 to attend Temple University, where he majored in Political Science, going on to receive a law degree from Temple University School of Law in 1997. A consultant in private practice for the last five years and currently with Public Financial Management, Jeff consults to cities and counties across the nation helping them improve productivity, reduce expenditures, and enhance revenue. Prior to consulting, Mr. Friedman served the City of Philadelphia as the Director of Planning and Analysis for the Office of Fleet Management, the centralized vehicle management agency responsible for approximately 6,000 City-owned vehicles. In addition to PhillyCarShare, Jeff is active in various civic and community groups. He serves as the Co-Chair of the East Falls School Committee and is an East Falls Development Corporation Board Member. Jeff formerly served on the board of Clean Air Council and is a past president of the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia. John Kuper (board member) is a Principal with Howard Fischer Associates (HFA), where he specializes in the cable, media and telecommunication industries. Over the last fifteen years John has developed a proven ability to advise CEOs, Board of Directors and private investors on the process of identifying, attracting and evaluating leaders to build successful companies. His clients range from the Fortune 100 to emerging technology companies, and he has lead senior level projects for Comcast, Sprint, SES Americom, Nextel and the National Football League. Before joining HFA, John was an Associate with Heidrick and Struggles where he managed all phases of the research strategy, candidate development, qualification and recruitment of senior level IT executives for the world's largest publicly traded executive search firm. He previously served as Human Resources Manager for Capital One Financial and, prior to that, Assistant Dean of Admissions for his alma mater, Hampden-Sydney College. John earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Hampden-Sydney College. He enjoys spending his free time with family and coaching a variety of youth sports teams. John McGee (board member) has more than thirty years of transportation experience and currently serves as Chief Officer for Revenue, Ridership, Marketing and Sales at SEPTA. John has responsibility for SEPTA's $420 million revenue budget, advertising and other non-traditional revenue sources. John also leads marketing and sales initiatives, market research, business development and management of parking lots housing 22,000 spaces. John is currently designing the vision for a technology driven fare payment system. John is a member of Bus Transportation and Marketing & Fare Policy committees of the National Academy of Sciences, Transportation Research Board. John chairs the Delaware Valley Air Quality Partnership. John has an undergraduate degree in Economics from Temple University and a MBA from Widener University. John is a life-long Delaware Valley resident with three children. Linda J. Miller (board member) has focused her career in the parking industry. Currently, as Senior Director of Facilities & Public Affairs for the Philadelphia Parking Authority the focus is on improving and expanding technology to meet the diverse needs of the parking public. She has worked to insure that the strides the Authority is making are known to the public. The new technology has created exciting times in the parking community. In addition to her career Linda has worked with the YWCA of Germantown to address issues of employment and training for women. She volunteered for many years with the PA Breast Cancer Coalition providing information and better access for minority women. She is a graduate of La Salle with a degree in Marketing. Linda moved to Philadelphia from Winnipeg, Manitoba over 36 years ago when she married her husband Bill. They now live in East Mount Airy and are active in their community. |
